How my projections stacked up to the competition in 2018-19
Projection accuracy is very tricky, and there’s a lot of ways to go about doing them. Fantasy Ref is a great resource, but only applies to basic stats like goals, assists, and wins. Most leagues need more than that, and because they do, I’m not sure Fantasy Ref’s methodology makes the most sense. Because every stat category matters, that means every ranking will be customizable and different, so simply looking at each forecaster’s top 50, 100, or 300 for points or wins sacrifices the nuance of just looking at raw accuracy.
What you want is accurate fantasy point projections to create your own rankings, and when you need points, power play points, shots, hits, blocks or whatever, the accuracy of each is what will drive that.
There are two popular sources that give out projections for stat categories more far reaching than just points and wins, here’s how my projections stacked up to both in 2018-19.
